Mining Heritage demonstrates the industrial significance of the iron exploitation in Bizkaia, which involved a brutal transformation of the natural, social and economical scenery of the Basque Country. Of note within this important mining heritage in Bizkaia there are ore calcination kilns, railways and aerial bucket ropeways , sleep lifts and loading wharves situated in the Cantabrian Sea and Nervion estuary.

Also remarkable are the buildings constructed to house the miners, office buildings, mine hospitals and, very specially, the mines themselves which, both externally and internally, mark out the geography of Bizkaia, constituting a completely singular landscape.
